Eine riesige, stationäre Altostratuswolke hat uns den Tag langsam beginnen lassen. Der Wind sprach für Tambo, also bauten wir optimistisch auf. Wegen der Abschattung wurde eine kurze Aufgabe von 42km nach Rathdowney gesetzt.
Um 13.00 Uhr ging es dann endlich los, die Sonne zeigte sich am Start, und das 75köpfige Feld sorgte für hohe Aluminiumdichte in der Luft darüber. Da die Arbeitshöhe höchstens 1100m betrug, war es ein langsamer, arbeitsreicher Tag. Ich bin in einem kleinen Pulk von ausgewählten Piloten, u.a. Steve Moyes und Adam Parer, recht gut unterwegs gewesen. Hab diesen Pulk eine ganze Weile von Thermik zu Thermik geleitet, bis ich mich leider 3km vor Ziel in den Boden geleitet habe und die anderen über meinen Kopf ins Ziel gesegelt sind ;) Naja, einen Tag brauchte ich als "Nuller" für die Fixed Total Validity, ein neues Konzept der Australier, bei dem die schlechtesten 20 % eines Piloten unter den Tisch fallen. Mal sehen, ob sich das heute in den Ergebnissen widerspiegelt. Ach ja, Jonny Durand war wieder ganz vorne mit dabei und führt fast uneinholbar den Wettbewerb.
Für heute ist bewölkter Himmel angekündigt, also wieder ein guter Tag für mich zum Basteln. Morgen soll es dann eventuell regnen und gewittern.
A huge, stationary stratus cloud covered the sky above take off today and forced us into a small task of 42km to Rathdowney. At 1pm the finally the sun lightened us up and we filled the air with aluminium. I flew in a small, exquisite gaggle with Steve Moyes, Adam Parer and other guns, and was leading out to find new thermals for most of the way. Well, until I hit the deck 3km before goal and saw the others gliding over my head into goal ;) But I needed a "bomb out" day for fixed validity anyhow, so that was it! Lets see how it worked out in the scores. By the way, Jonny Durand was the first in goal again and is nearly uncatchable for the other pilots now.
Today the sky is covered in clouds, nw winds, so another difficult and slow Tambo day. They predicted rain and storms for tomorrow, I guess today might be the last chance to score some points.
